On The Profit, investor Marcus Lemonis travels to Crestwood and Burbank, two suburbs of Chicago, Illinois, to check out the new business Simply Slices. Owners Dino and Debbie Pavoni say they’re the only place that serves pizza slices via a drive-thru. They opened the first Simply Slices 20 years ago in 1998. Now they tell Lemonis that they want to franchise the business nationwide. All slices are $2.39, 25-cents extra per topping. They also sell Sno Biz Shaved Ice ($3.25).
It was a successful business but then tragedy hit the Pavoni family. In 2002, Dino and Debbie’s 18-year-old son Dominick died from an overdose. Debbie tells Lemonis, with tears in her eyes, “We buried him on Thursday and went back to work on Friday.” Dominick was one of six children.

On a fun note: Dino and Debbie’s son Derrick Pavoni has been working at Simply Slices since he was 14. And now he’s known as “Pizza Ninja” on American Ninja Warrior. See photos below. New episodes of The Profit air Tuesdays at 10pm on CNBC.
