DetraPel is a non-toxic spray that repels water and stains when applied on almost all surfaces — fabric, leather, wood, metal, glass, stone. It works to clean dirty shoes, stained sofa cushions, even graffiti off a brick wall, and it doesn’t change the color of the surface. The inventor of DetraPel, Babson College student David Zamarin (class of 2020), pitched his business on Shark Tank in January 2018. He went into the Tank seeking a $200,000 investment in exchange for 20 percent equity. Zamarin received several offers but went with investors Mark Cuban and Lori Greiner — $200,000 for 25 percent equity.

In March, DetraPel started shipping out orders. During an interview in June 2018, Zamarin said: “DetraPel is the third company I have built and I plan to take it all the way to an IPO.” Zamarin started a shoe cleaning business and a valet company before DetraPel.
