In The Simpsons episode “King Leer,” when Moe closes the bar early, Homer and Marge follow him only to find him and his father Morty Szyslak fighting. When Homer and Marge learn that Moe has been excommunicated from his family for years, they try to bring them back together. Moe’s father Morty has been mentioned in four prior episodes of The Simpsons. The last was in “Walking Big & Tall” where Moe and Morty are seen in a flashback singing “Only Springfield.”
[Liotta won an Emmy for his real time guest appearance on ER as alcoholic ex-con Charlie Metcalf]
Morty Szyslak is voiced by Ray Liotta. Liotta is known for his current role on the NBC cop drama Shades of Blue with Jennifer Lopez (Lt. Wozniak). He’s also well recognized for his roles in the films Goodfellas* (Henry Hill), Something Wild (Ray Sinclair), Dominick and Eugene (Eugene), Cop Land (Officer Gary Figgis), and Field of Dreams (Shoeless Joe Jackson), among others. Fun fact about Liotta, after graduating from the University of Miami he moved to New York and worked as a bartender at the Shubert theaters. The Simpsons airs Sundays at 8pm on FOX, right before Brooklyn Nine-Nine.
*Debi Mazur, who played Liotta’s mistress Sandy in Goodfellas, plays Minnie Szyslak!
