In the premiere episode of the Roseanne reboot, “Twenty Years to Life,” Roseanne (Rosanne Barr) and Dan Connor (John Goodman) still live in the same house in Lanford, Illinois. Some things have changed over the past 20 years — they’ve become grandparents — but their struggle as a working-class family hasn’t. When their daughter Darlene (Sara Gilbert) loses her job, she and her two kids move into her parents’ home. Their other daughter, waitress Becky (Alicia Goranson) decides to make extra cash by becoming a surrogate for a married woman named Andrea.
Andrea is portrayed by Sarah Chalke, the actress who played the role of Becky (1993-1997) when Goranson, the original Becky in the original Roseanne series, took time off and went to college (Vassar College). How cool a casting job is that? Chalke is also known for her roles on How I Met Your Mother (Stella), How to Live with Your Parents (For the Rest of Your Life) as Polly, and Scrubs (Dr. Elliot Reid), among many others. Roseanne airs Tuesdays at 8pm on ABC.
