On the This Is Us episode “The Wedding,” everyone gathers for Kate (Chrissy Metz) and Toby’s (Chris Sullivan) wedding. The big day is happening at the family cabin, Kate’s “favorite place.” Although it is the season finale, three new characters are introduced – Toby’s divorced parents and Beth’s (Susan Kelechi Watson) cool cousin Zoey who’s taking the wedding photos. This Is Us co-showrunner Isaac Aptaker says, “We love all three of them, so I certainly hope [we’ll see them again].”
The day before the wedding, after Kate gives Toby the bowtie that Leslie Nielsen wore in Naked Gun 33⅓: The Final Insult as a wedding present, their kiss is interrupted by Kevin (Justin Hartley) who’s playing wedding planner. Kevin tells Toby he’s running late to pick up his parents at the airport. Toby isn’t looking forward to the car ride with his parents who are divorced. He explains that his father (Dan Lauria, Kevin’s dad on The Wonder Years) is always pressuring his mom (Wendie Malick, former model Nina Van Horn on Just Shoot Me!) to marry her boyfriend. If she does marry Monty, his dad won’t have to pay alimony anymore. This Is Us airs Tuesdays at 9pm on NBC, right after The Voice.
