The top comment on the dangerous new Tune-Yards “Heart Attack” video asks “anybody else feel like these new songs are just all right at first and then they slowly grow on you until they take you over?” Yup, we do. We do feel that. Except that “just all right” isn’t exactly the way “Heart Attack” hit us at first. This is the catchiest non hip hop hook of 2018. Sure it’s early in the year, but let the contenders take their shots. Tune-Yards‘ Merrill Garbus and Nate Brenner will defend their Best Hook of 2018 title with aplomb, unless someone finds one of Prince’s old hard drives.
“Heart Attack” is on I Can Feel You Creep Into My Private Life, which came out January 19, 2018. The new Tune-Yards album is pretty much a case study in the fragmentation of the entertainment industry, especially music, where there is no center as radio once provided. Remarkably, I Can Feel You Creep Into My Private Life has only four reviews to date on Amazon — all 5 stars. The video for “Heart Attack” has a mere 150,000 views. But just wait till a savvy car company wants to show its latest sports car entry taking the serpentine turns fast above the Pacific Ocean on California Highway 1. Once that sporty car starts zig-zagging to “Heart Attack” by Tune-Yards, the views will zoom. For now, you’re part of a relatively small club. Enjoy. (The video is directed by Mimi Cave, and it’s a beauty.)
