In the Fresh off the Boat episode “We Need to Talk about Evan,” Jessica (Constance Wu) encourages her son Evan (Ian Chen) to win Student of the Month. Okay, she pushes him to win so she can rub it in the face of her frenemy Amy Chestnut, the Latter-Day Saint who survived Polio and always looks perfect in pretty cardigans and pearls. But the added pressure to win the title overwhelms Evan. To Jessica’s chagrin, Evan starts seeing the school counselor.
Amy Chestnut is portrayed by Angela Kinsey. The Emmy Award-winning actress is known for her roles on The Office (Angela Martin), Netflix’s Haters Back Off! (Bethany), New Girl (Rose), The Hotwives of Las Vegas (First Lady), and The Hotwives of Orlando (Crystal Simmons), among others. Kinsey will appear next on the big screen in Half Magic with Stephanie Beatriz (Brooklyn Nine-Nine) and Heather Graham (Boogie Nights, Austin Powers), who wrote and directed the “female empowerment” comedy. Half Magic will be in theaters February 23. Fresh Off the Boat airs Tuesdays at 8pm on ABC.
