In the Chicago Fire episode “Slamigan,” while Dawson (Monica Raymund) and Casey (Jesse Spencer) are on a mission to find Bria (Quinn Cooke), Severide (Taylor Kinney) is reunited with his mentor Chief Grissom. Grissom (of Firehouse 36, where Severide used to work) is at Firehouse 51 to distribute invitations to a benefit dinner and silent auction for the 100 club. Grissom is surprised to see that Casey made captain and Severide didn’t. “What do you care, aren’t you hanging up your axe in the fall?” Severide says with a smile.
[Cole was nominated for an Emmy for his Veep role]
Chief Grissom is portrayed by Gary Cole. He’s known for his roles on Veep (former Senior Strategist for both presidents Kent Davison), Suits (Cameron Dennis), The Good Wife (Kurt McVeigh), Entourage (Andrew Klein), Desperate Housewives (Wayne Davis), The West Wing (Vice President Bob Russell), and Midnight Caller (Jack “Nighthawk” Killian), among many others. Cole is also well recognized for his roles in the films Office Space (boss Bill Lumbergh), Dodgeball (announcer Cotton McKnight), and Talladega Nights (Ricky Bobby’s father Reese). There’s also Cole’s fun voice work for Family Guy. Chicago Fire airs Thursdays at 10pm on NBC.
