In the Superstore episode “Angels and Mermaids,” while Jonah (Ben Feldman) discovers that Kelly believes in angels, Amy (America Ferrera) gets caught in the middle of a conflict between Cheyenne (Nichole Bloom) and Cheyenne’s mother Brandi who just got out of jail. While preparing for her daughter Harmonica’s second birthday party, Brandi insists on a Green Day theme (that’s her favorite band). Amy suggests a mermaid theme and tries to sell it to Cheyenne by claiming that Green Day was once referred to as “The Mermaids of 90s Rock.”
Cheyenne’s mother Brandi is portrayed by Mary Hollis Inboden. She’s known for roles on Speechless (Darla), The Real O’Neals (Jodim Dwayne’s ex-wife), Boss (Jackie), and The Chicago Code (Mary), among others. Interesting fact: Inboden is a survivor of the 1998 Westside Middle School shooting in Jonesboro, Arkansas. She was 12 years old when two of her classmates fatally shot five people and injured ten others. As an adult, in 2011, Inboden recruited “an ensemble of her former classmates to help capture their stories, not of the tragic event that unites them, but of the daily battles and triumphs that define their present” as seen on stage in The Warriors. Superstore airs Thursdays at 8pm on NBC.
