When VH1 decided to launch its fourth installment of its popular franchise Love & Hip Hop, the camera crew flew down to Miami. Rapper Trick Daddy is the patriarch of the show. And his life-long friend and collaborator, female rapper Trina, is the matriarch. Both were raised in Miami’s notorious Liberty Square projects known as Pork & Beans. They share more than music together. Trina used to date Trick Daddy’s half-brother Derek “Hollywood” Harris (see photo below). In 1994, while sitting in a parked 1987 Buick, Hollywood was shot and killed. He was 23. According to the Sun-Sentinel, it was likely Dade county’s “bloodiest night of the year” as five other young people were also murdered that night. All six were shot, between midnight and 2 a.m.

Four years after Hollywood’s death, Trick Daddy asked Trina to sing on his single Nann N***a, which turned out to be a huge success. Trick Daddy went on to release eight albums including Finally Famous: Born a Thug, Still a Thug. Trina is working on her sixth album, The One, which is expected to be released in 2018. Love & Hip Hop: Miami airs Mondays at 9pm on VH1. [Related: Trick Daddy: 12 Dope Facts About ‘Love & Hip Hop Miami’ Rapper]
