Joseph M. DePinto is the President and Chief Executive Officer of 7-Eleven, Inc. The American convenience store company has more than 62,000 stores around the world; 8,900 are in the United States. Last week, the Trump administration approved of a swath of ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement) raids nationwide at 98 7-Eleven stores which resulted in several arrests (21) of undocumented workers. 7-Eleven Stores Inc., which is based in Irving, Texas, said it was aware of the sweep. In a statement, the company pointed out that it is the franchisees who “are solely responsible for their employees, including deciding who to hire and verifying their eligibility to work in the United States.”
DePinto has been CEO of 7-Eleven since 2005. The West Point graduate (bachelor’s degree in Engineering Management) is also Chairman of the Board of Brinker International which owns Chili’s, Rockfish Seafood Grill, and Maggiano’s Little Italy restaurant chains, among others. DePinto is also a Council member of the George W. Bush Presidential Center Military Service Initiative. According to Newsweek, DePinto contributed $2,000 to Donald Trump’s 2016 presidential campaign. According to Breitbart, in December 2016, DePinto attended the annual Army-Navy game with President-elect Trump, as did Under Armour CEO Kevin Plank, former NYC mayor Rudy Giuliani, and former National Security Advisor Michael Flynn, among others. In January 2018, DePinto told Convenience Store News that 7-Eleven is focusing on connecting its brick-and-mortar business with the digital world.
