The Lifetime movie I Am Elizabeth Smart is a retelling of Elizabeth Smart’s abduction from her family home in Salt Lake City in 2002. Smart was 14 when she was abducted at knife-point from her bedroom. Nine months after being “starved, drugged, raped and subjected to bizarre religious rituals,” Smart was rescued by police on a public street less than 20 miles from her home. Smart was held captive by rapist Brian David Mitchell and his wife Wanda Ileen Barzee. Barzee was sentenced to 15 years in prison; Mitchell was sentenced to two life terms. Elizabeth Smart is now 30 years old, married and the mother of two children.
[Alana Boden played Jeremy Piven’s daughter in Mr. Selfridge]
In I Am Elizabeth Smart, the courageous Smart is portrayed by 20-year-old British actress Alana Boden. Boden is known for her roles on Nickelodeon’s Ride (Elaine Whilshire, see below), Mr. Selfridge (Beatrice Selfridge, daughter or Jeremy Piven’s character, see link above), among others. I Am Elizabeth Smart premieres on Lifetime on Saturday, November 18 at 8pm.
