Lifetime Movies has given the 1980 cult classic film The Watcher in the Woods the 21st century treatment. Based on the 1976 novel of the same title, the film tells the gruesome story of Mrs. Aylwood, whose daughter Karen disappeared 36 years ago in the woods of the English countryside. When a new family moves next door to her, Mrs. Aylwood is stunned by their daughter Jan’s (Tallulah Evans) remarkable resemblance to her daughter. The original film starred acting legend Bette Davis and Kyle Richards, who played Jan’s little sister and is now on Real Housewives of Beverly Hills. (Trailer below.)

This time around Mrs. Aylwood is portrayed by Anjelica Huston, another acting legend from a movie family par excellence. The daughter of the late legendary director John Huston, Anjelica is known for her roles in the films The Royal Tenenbaums (Etheline Tenenbaum) – see link above, The Addams Family (Morticia), The Grifters (Lilly), Crimes and Misdemeanors (Dolores Palye), Prizzi’s Honor (Maerose Prizzi, for which she won an Oscar), The Last Tycoon (Edna), and The Postman Always Rings Twice (Madge), among many others. The Watcher in the Woods (which is directed by Melissa Joan Hart of Sabrina the Teenage Witch fame) premieres on Lifetime on Saturday, October 21 at 8pm.
