Kyla Federowicz of Phoenix, Arizona is the toy inventor behind Pillow Fight Pads. These aren’t ordinary pillows. Pillow Fight Pads glow in the dark and make funny sounds when squeezed. Kyla is trying to hit the sweet spot for kids toys that is described by business site Quartz perfectly: “The best toys focus on what the child can do, rather than what the toys can do.” Kyla is on the right track toward that formula. She pitches her Pillow Fight Pads toy in front of the tough panel of kid judges on The Toy Box on October 22. And it looks like the kid judges have a lot of fun with Pillow Fight Pads (host Eric Stonestreet, not so much). It’s not surprising that Kyla has something kids like — she knows how to do the research and she’s a seasoned inventor/entrepreneur. She also knows how to pitch a product and tailor her pitch to the audience. Think about it: kids, pillow fights. That’s a “yes” waiting to happen.

This isn’t Kyla’s first invention. In 2014 she entered the 2014 Black Enterprise Elevator Pitch Competition with her red, heart-shaped Fashion Foams (see video below). The foam cleans makeup off clothing without having to go to the dry cleaner. The Toy Box airs Sundays at 7pm on ABC.
