If Amazon were Apple, this new waterproof Kindle Oasis might have been called something like the Kindle X (X for “ten”)– because like the iPhone, the Kindle is also marking its 10th year. But Amazon is all about the customer, so the company decided to give it a name that literally means something to customers — the Oasis. Why the Oasis? Because the Kindle Oasis is waterproof. (Waterproof for real: “can withstand immersion in up to 2 meters of fresh water for up to 60 minutes.”) It’s a beautiful piece of news and a vast technological improvement for every Kindle user who reads by the pool or on the beach or, let’s face it, in the bathroom. (And it’s yet another thing the Kindle provides that it’s chief competition — old-fashioned paper books — can’t.)
The new Kindle Oasis also supports fast charging, zooming to 100% in two hours. It also has Audible built in, a feature that makes it a much more capable device. The Kindle Oasis is available in 8GB and 32GB models. With the Kindle you get “Instant access to over a million best-selling titles starting at $2.99 or less.”
