In the Empire episode “Full Circle,” Lucious (Terrence Howard) sneaks away to learn more about what type of man he really is/was before the explosion and his case of amnesia. His old friend, music icon “Uncle” Eddie Barker (Forest Whitaker), is surprised when Lucious doesn’t recognize him. Cookie (Taraji P. Henson) confides in Eddie about Lucious’ brain injury and how she’s been told to liquefy Empire’s assets.
[Whitaker won an Oscar for The Last King of Scotland]
Eddie, who must be the nicest character to ever set foot on the set of Empire, tells Cookie not to give up. “What do our families do when someone is sick or dying?” He kids about cakes, pies and casseroles but he’s serious when he tells her she needs to get those artists and they need to “hold you up and support this.” He suggests using music as a way to get through the rough patch. P.S. Whitaker is really a nice guy. He works as a special envoy with UNESCO (see below). Empire airs Wednesdays at 8pm on FOX.
