Patriots QB Tom Brady may still be a friend — and even a supporter — of Donald Trump. But Trump’s inflaming comments over the weekend — with the president saying NFL owners should fire players who peacefully protest by kneeling during the national anthem — doesn’t jibe with Brady’s more inclusive ideas. Brady said on the radio that he “certainly” disagreed with the president’s ideas. “I just want to support my teammates,” Brady said, noting that he was raised to support different ideals than those being peddled by Trump. “I believe in bringing people together and respect and love and trust. Those are the values that my parents instilled in me and it’s how I try to live every day.”
“Yeah, I certainly disagree with what [Trump] said. I thought it was just divisive,” Brady said. The need to respect others has only grown as Brady, in a long career, has met different people from different places. “We’re all different, we’re all unique. That is what makes us all special,” Brady said. Brady put on record the values he values most in a pre-game Instagram post that has been liked by more than 270K people. 12 words define the NFL player, as Brady sees it. And the words might also suit a good description of honest American citizens: “Strength. Passion. Love. Brotherhood. Team. Unity. Commitment. Dedication. Determination. Respect. Loyalty. Work. #nflplayer”
