David Ortiz wouldn’t mind keeping baseball out of it. It being the flaring tempers about racism in America. After some “fans” unfurled a banner at Fenway proclaiming “racism is as American as baseball,” Ortiz told TMZ that “you don’t want to add sh*t to the sh*t that’s already out there” where racism is concerned. Seems Big Papi wishes baseball stadiums could just be about the games, letting the arguments that rage take place outside the national pastime’s environs.
The people who hung the banner from the famous Fenway Park wall nicknamed the green monster were escorted from the premises. So for now Big Papi gets his wish. Interestingly and predictably, the sign has been misinterpreted. It was apparently hung by people who are fighting against racism, trying to make a point about how endemic to society the problem is. A lot of people saw it and thought there were a bunch of rabid racists in the left field bleachers.
