Liquid Lounge on Bar Rescue Reopens As Tidal Bay Beach Bar
In the Bar Rescue episode “Silence of the Ants”, Jon Taffer travels to Long Beach, California to meet with the owner of Liquid Lounge, a dive bar “infested with bar problems and bugs.” Owner Rob McCarthy bought the place almost seven years ago after inheriting $400,000 from his parents. For the first three years, Rob’s investment paid off. In 2013, the Liquid Lounge posted more than $650,000 in sales but then things took a turn. Rob says a citing of fruit flies which was publicized in local newspapers “hit us hard.” And Rob doesn’t have a lot of bar/restaurant experience.

As bartender Lola says, “What’s stopping this place from being successful is Rob.” She adds, “He’s a nice guy, to a fault.” Even Rob admits to putting bar problems “on the back burner” because it can become “very overwhelming.” He’s now facing $270,000 in debt. Regardless of McCarthy’s passiveness, Taffer helps rebrand and refurnish the Liquid Lounge into Tidal Bay Beach Bar where they’re hosting fun events including Taco Tuesdays and Fish Frys. Bar Rescue airs Sundays at 10pm on Spike.
