OutDaughtered is the reality TV show that features Adam and Danielle Busby, parents of six girls including almost-2-year-old quintuplets. It hasn’t been easy since day one. All five were born at 28 weeks. Danielle shared her story of those first days of life in the NICU while delivering a speech at the fundraiser for the March of Dimes NICU Program in Houston, Texas.
With a team of doctors and nurses by her side, Danielle delivered all 5 of the babies in less than 4 minutes, all weighed about 2 pounds. And all had to spend time in the NICU where they received oxygen. Danielle wasn’t able to hold them right away. In her speech, Danielle says Riley and Ava had the most difficult time. On day 3, when Danielle and Adam walked into the NICU, they were told Riley’s lung had collapsed. “It’s something you never want to hear,” Danielle cries as she recounts the day. And Ava had a staph infection which meant she was separated from the others. And when they all recovered and came out of the NICU, Danielle admits that she was scared to hold them for fear of “breaking them.” Danielle ended her speech by thanking everyone at the hospital “for every step along the way.” OutDaughtered airs Tuesdays at 8pm and 9pm on TLC.
