The Spurs, playing without injured star Kawhi Leonard, never looked like they were going to compete in Game 2 against the Warriors after a gut-wrenching 113-111 loss in Game 1. So Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich didn’t go through his normal rotation, such as it is anyway. Veteran star and reliable off-the-bench spark plug Manu Ginobili played just five minutes total in Game 2. Ginobili had played 25 minutes in Game 1, making critical contributions. But Popovich decided not to waste Ginobili’s 39-year-old legs in Game 2 Warriors blowout, obviously preferring to have a fresher Ginobili back in San Antonio for Game 3.
Veteran David Lee also played a scant 4 minutes for the Spurs and Pau Gasol logged a meager 15 minutes on the court. The Spurs played 13 players.
