Novak Djokovic is still a force and the world’s No. 2 ranked tennis player. But the reality is he has won just one of the last 11 tournaments he’s entered. For a man who is used to better results, the frustration has mounted. Now entering the French Open Djokovic has announced he’ll be working with tennis legend and fellow career Grand Slam winner Andre Agassi as coach. Agassi is not just a former great who “understands the game amazingly well” but someone who Djokovic describes as a “person that can contribute to my life on and off the court a lot.”

That’s exactly what Djokovic’s previous coaching/fitness regime did for him. The coaching and fitness combination of Marian Vajda and Gebhard Phil-Gritsch helped transform Djokovic from an oft-injured super-talent with potential into an indestructible tennis force who temporarily ended debates about who was the best of the Big 4. (Djokovic, Murray, Federer, Nadal.) It’s interesting to note that Vajda and Phi-Gritsch aren’t camera-ready the way Agassi is. Why is that important?
