Serena Williams announced her pregnancy on Snapchat, even though the father of her baby, Alex Ohanian, is a founder of Reddit. What a world. “20 Weeks” read Williams’ selfie showing a bump, revealing also in that piece of information that she won her 23rd Grand Slam title in Australia in January while pregnant. The 35-year-old Williams will welcome her first child, who will immediately join the ranks of superfamous babies like the children of Kanye West and Kim Kardashian and Princess Kate’s children. Debuting on Snapchat is a little coup for CEO Evan Spiegel’s recently public camera company.
The New York Times featured a long article today by tech watcher Farhad Manjoo about how Mark Zuckerberg basically owns the digital world — “it’s the network.” Manjoo writes about how no matter who the hip company on the block is next — Snapchat or the next guy — Facebook and its subsidiaries like WhatsApp and Instagram already own the grid. Anybody who comes to play, in other words, has to play on Facebook’s field. But there remains a hip factor that attaches to some tech companies, and Snapchat has the cachet. Just ask Serena Williams, and the world’s newest famous baby.
A baby and a wedding? A VERY special year ahead for @serenawilliams So happy for her new journey…
