It’s been a long eight months since Return to Amish was on TLC. Last summer we saw Jeremiah Raber get remarried (to Carmela who was raised in a cult). Now Rebecca tells her husband Abe that she wants to get her GED and go to school to become a dentist. (Remember how her new teeth changed her life last season?) Well, she wants to give that feeling to someone else. And, she says, she wants her kids to look up to her as they do to Abe. Abe’s response is, “I also want my kids to have parents, at least one of them.” He adds, “You’re damn good at it.”

Rebecca reminds Abe that she had wanted to get her GED when they were orthodox Amish but they held her back, “And now I feel like you’re doing the same thing.” She adds, “Which is complete bull crap.” Abe’s reaction shouldn’t come as a surprise. Just last season, Abe declared that it’s a woman’s job to take care of the kids and the guy’s job to provide. Abe doesn’t like the idea of Rebecca working. “The thing is you really don’t need an education to live,” he tells her. He follows up with (in Amish): “You’re making a bigger deal out of this than it is.” She then says, “Well fine then, I won’t do it.” Ugh!
