In the Long Lost Family episode ‘The Court Said No, We Were Too Young’, the team travels to Oxnard, California to meet Mary. Mary is looking for her sister Monica, who was put into foster care when Monica was 5 years old. Mary says her mother “didn’t have the mindset to take care of her children” and she put men before her children. After an incident involving her mother’s boyfriend and a gun, Monica was put into foster care. Mary, the eldest of seven, went to court to try to adopt Monica but the court said Mary, who was then 18, was too young. That day in court, was the last time Mary saw her little sister.
Mary says she’s feeling a lot of guilt in not being able to rescue Monica. She’s looking to find some relief on Long Lost Family which airs Sundays at 9pm on TLC.
