Roderick John “Rocky” Long, Jr. has had a long career coaching college football. The former starting quarterback for the New Mexico Lobos football team (1969-1971) returned to his alma mater in 1997 as the head football coach. His 65 wins are the most of any head coach in program history. After 11 seasons, he resigned in 2008. In 2009, he moved to San Diego State as defensive coordinator and became head coach in 2011.

Coach Long and his wife Debby have two daughters, Roxanne and Hannah. Roxanne Long is the former head coach for the women’s basketball team at Rogers State University in Oklahoma. She’s currently a teaching fellow at the University of North Texas in the Sociology Department. Hannah Long is currently head coach for the women’s volleyball team at Queens University of Charlotte. Hannah played at Portland State where she was team captain and named the school’s Female Athlete of the Year in 1999 and the Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year in 1998.
