The Toyota TV commercial for its 2017 Tundra pickup truck is airing a lot this NFL season. Tailored for football fans, the ad tells the story of a high school football referee who makes a tough out of bounds call on what would have been a winning touchdown. On the way home in his 2017 Toyota Tundra, the father of one of the players on the losing team sees the ref on the side of the road. His car has broken down and it’s pouring rain. Instead of holding a grudge, the family stops and gives the ref a lift. The son and his teammate make room for the ref in the back.
The referee might look familiar because that’s actor Kenny Medlock. The veteran actor has appeared on everything from Fantasy Island to 7th Heaven. He’s perhaps best recognized for his role as Oakland A’s scouting director Grady Fuson in the 2011 film Moneyball opposite Brad Pitt.
