J.R. Smith couldn’t be happier. The shooting guard who escaped the turmoil called the New York Knicks to join the Cleveland Cavaliers and win a world championship was already having a good year. Then things got a lot better this week as what he called a “tedious” lockout came to an end. Smith signed with the Cavs for four more years and approximately $57 million.
Smith has spent 12 years in the NBA, but none as rewarding as last season — when he started 77 games for the Cavs in the regular season and all 21 playoff games en route to the title. Yet none of that brought quite the smile to his face as the news he dropped at the end of his video: Smith and family are having another baby. He was thankful to the Cavaliers family, he said, and thrilled to be adding to his own. Smith will be ready for the season opener on October 25.
