Sean Michael McGavic was born in October 1978 and adopted in November 1978. He was always told he was adopted by his adoptive parents, Martha and Claude McGavic. He says he never considered finding his birth parents until he was an adult. His parents divorced when he was a teenager, and his mother remarried, twice. With her third husband, Chuck Kaczmarczyk, Martha killed her second husband, Vietnam War veteran, Robert McClancy.

Before going to jail for 50 years, Martha gave Sean McGavic a number of possessions including his baby book. To Sean’s surprise there are eight pages in it with newspaper clippings about the Jim Jones mass murder/suicide in Guyana, which occurred the same month Sean was adopted. Dateline is following Sean McGavic on his journey to find his birth parents. He is asking the public for help.
