Welcome to another exciting rendition of Matty Amsterdam’s Essential Fantasy Insights! If you tuned in last week (and hopefully followed along), you were rewarded as Victor Cruz grabbed 4 balls for 91 yards, and impressive rookie Sterling Shepard gave you 8 for 117 yards! Meanwhile, Alex Smith put up a pedestrian, Alex Smith-y 20 for 37, 186 yard, 0 TD performance against the Texans. Let’s keep the heat going for Week 3! If you need a running back, take a shot with Matt Asiata. I’ll admit, there’s nothing exciting about him. He’s a big, slow, plodding sort of guy. But in 2014, while subbing for the injured Adrian Peterson, he was a consistent performer, especially in short-yardage situations, with 9 TDs. In his career, he has 12 TDs in only 250 attempts, and I like him to score in this one, even if Jerrick McKinnon is getting most of the carries.
Meanwhile, I’m staying away from Sammy Watkins this week. The guy is a beast, and I would love to have him on my team any day! But just look at what he’s done this year: 6 total receptions for 63 yards and no TDs. He’s still clearly banged up, and the Cardinals defense is not going to be doing him or QB Tyrod Taylor any favors. The Ryan Brothers look to be on their way out in Buffalo, and things just aren’t clicking for Sammy yet. He’s a sit for me, and I think you can find better options on your bench or waiver wire. Good luck this week, readers!!
