Architect Max Gunawan of San Francisco pitched his beautifully design lamp Lumio on Shark Tank in January 2015. It’s not just beautiful but smart. When not in use, a Lumio disguises itself as a book. But it’s really a lamp (which weighs just one pound) that can fold up and travel. And the built-in, rechargeable battery lasts for eight hours. On Shark Tank, Gunawan accepted an offer — $350,000 for 10 percent equity — from investor Robert Herjavec.
[The Original Lumio Book Lamp is available on Amazon too]
Since Shark Tank, Lumio has launched a mini-Lumio. The battery can be charged via a mobile phone or USB. The $125 version is available in three designs: orange/black, navy/yellow, and red/gray. (The original Lumios sell for $190.) Pretty soon you’ll be able to custom design your own Lumio – a variety of sizes and colors to come.
