During the last night of the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio, American high jumper Vashti Cunningham will vie for a gold medal. The 18-year-old, 6’1” tall athlete is the daughter of former NFL quarterback Randall Cunningham and former ballerina Felicity (nee De Jager) Cunningham of the Dance Theatre of Harlem. Vashti’s parents met in 1990 at Radio City Music Hall, where Felicity was performing and he was making a guest appearance at a Night of 100 Stars event. They had four children including Vashti’s big brother Randall Cunningham II who is a high jumper too, an All-American at USC.
Vashti Cunningham achieved her personal best — 1.99 m (6 ft 6 ¼ in) for high jump indoor – and won the gold at the 2016 USA Indoor Track and Field Championships in March.
