Loyola University Chicago fired its women’s basketball team head coach Sheryl Swoopes, a four-time WNBA champion and three-time Olympic gold medalist. After receiving complaints about Swoopes “mistreating” players – 10 of 12 returning players either transferred or asked to be released from scholarships — Loyola conducted an investigation. One of those players was Cate Soan who said Swoopes “humiliated” and “belittled” her before she transferred.
A statement released by a public relations firm representing Swoopes said “In response to the inquiries made about the investigation, Sheryl is comfortable with its outcomes. She is disappointed, however, with the actions that have followed. In respect of the holiday, we plan to have Sheryl’s voice heard at an appropriate time.”
