The Dateline NBC episode ‘Toxic’ investigates the 2006 death of 31-year-old Matthew Podolak of Brooklyn, Ohio. The autopsy of the otherwise happy, healthy, amateur hockey player revealed he died of poisoning. Six years later, in 2012, the mother of Podolak’s two children, Holly McFeeture, was found guilty of poisoning Podolak. For weeks, she allegedly added antifreeze to his red raspberry iced teas.

After Podolak’s death, McFeeture dated Jamison Kennedy. At her trial, Kennedy testified that McFeeture confessed to poisoning Podolak. Kennedy, who was serving a 10-year sentence for assaulting a police officer and several probation violations, was brought from prison to testify at McFeeture’s trial. McFeeture’s lawyers, who claimed Podolok committed suicide by poisoning himself, filed a motion for a new trial saying Kennedy wasn’t a credible witness. Kennedy had testified in another murder trial that sent a man to prison last year. McFeeture’s motion was denied. The Dateline NBC episode ‘Toxic’ will re-air on July 30 at 9pm on NBC.
