Thirty years ago Jim Henson (Sesame Street, The Muppets) released the fantasy film Labyrinth starring Jennifer Connelly and David Bowie. Connelly played a selfish teenage girl named Sarah who goes looking for her little brother Toby. Bowie played the magical Goblin King and provided the soundtrack. Now Archaia Comics is releasing Labyrinth Tales, a children’s book based on the film’s characters. It is written and illustrated by Cory Godbey.
Nerdist interviewed Godbey and asked “How do you balance the macabre tone of the film with the (usually) lighter tone of children’s book?” Godbey said: “it’s just never occurred to me to try and alter or ‘lighten’ the tone of the art or characters from the movie for these stories.” The book will be released during the week of September 21.
