She Loves Me is the musical about two people who get together and don’t like each other only to find out that they answered each other’s lonely-hearts ads and have become secret pen pals. She Loves Me has been revived a number of times since its premiere on Broadway in 1963. It has a history of winning Tony Awards: In 1964, Jack Cassidy won for Best Performance by Featured Actor; and in 1994 Boyd Gaines won for Best Performance by a Leading Actor. In 2016, the female lead, Amalia portrayed by Laura Benanti, is nominated for a Tony Award.
Laura Benanti is also recognized for her roles on the TV shows Supergirl (Alura Zor-El/Astra), Nashville (Sadie Stone), The Good Wife (Renata Ellard), Nurse Jackie (Mia), Law & Order: Special Victims Unit (Maria Grazie), Royal Pains (Shelby Shackelford), Go On (Lauren Schneider), and The Playboy Club (Carol Lynne Cunningham), among others. The Tony Awards will be televised on Sunday, June 12 at 8pm on CBS.
