60 Minutes Sports produced a profile on retired former Super Bowl champ running back Marshawn Lynch. Interviewer Jon Wertheim and producer Nathalie Sommer were impressed with Lynch’s forthcoming way of conversation — interesting because Lynch was famous for not talking to the media much. Lynch sure is unusually chipper, given the number of cameras around. He comes off as the real deal, wholly authentic, which 60 Minutes producers clearly aren’t used to. They’re charmed when Lynch complains that he’s disappointed that 60 Minutes didn’t take him out to dinner — after all, Lynch says, there was a Taco Bell nearby.
While shooting in Lynch’s native Oakland, producer Sommer kept trying to get the classic 60 Minutes shot where interviewer and subject are strolling and chatting. But Lynch kept Facetiming with people during the take. When Sommer suggested to Lynch that they do it again but without the phone, Lynch turned to her said, “You’re the worst. You’re worse than my momma.” 60 Minutes airs Sundays at 7pm on CBS.
