This tennis grunting business has got to stop. That’s what fans around the world think — and so does tennis pro Robin Haase apparently. Haase’s opponent Gonzalo Lama had grunted like a tortured gladiator seven times during this point before Haase grunted back once — in sarcastic and hilarious protest.
The umpire penalized Haase for unsportsmanlike conduct, essentially saying that tennis players are only allowed to grunt sincerely. “What? He can grunt but I couldn’t? No, no, no, no, no, no,” Haase said in his own defense. But to no avail. Lama won the match 6-3, 6-3. He totally crushed in the grunt contest too, winning about a thousand to one. But for style, Haase couldn’t be touched. His grunt was perfection.
