The Lifetime Olympics-themed docu-series Gold Medal Families features a number of aspiring Olympic athletes. In the episode “The Price of Gold,” the camera follows Nastasya Generalova, a 16-year-old from Los Angeles who hopes to become the first woman of color to medal in rhythmic gymnastics. While sitting on the living room floor near her mother, they eat at a coffee table. Nastasya explains that it’s just her and her mother Olga,” We don’t have backup.” Nastasya elaborates, “We’re on a tight budget. We live day to day, week by week.”
They don’t know what their future is going to look like. But they’re hopeful and they have their eyes on the prize — an Olympic medal. Gold Medal Families airs Tuesdays at 9pm and 10pm on Lifetime.
