Emily Austen was the Fox Sports Florida’s sideline reporter for Tampa Bay Rays and Orlando Magic broadcasts. She was fired after a video of Austen on Barstool Sports’ The Rundown went online. With a microphone in her hand Austen repeatedly called Cleveland Cavaliers forward Kevin Love a “little bitch” and made racist comments including that she “didn’t even know that Mexicans were that smart” and the “Chinese guy is always the smartest guy in math class,” among others.
Deadspin has the video on its website, where some readers believe Austen was just “pandering to the audience.” Regarding Austen’s rant about “talking to Jews in Boca,” a commenter called ‘Hot Ice. It’s The Best of Both Worlds!’ wrote: “The founder of the company [Barstool Sports] is a Jew and the majority of jokes towards him relate to him being Jewish. If she wasn’t an established reporter, you wouldn’t even be talking about this, it literally happens with their writers/readers every single day.” He then clarified, “why haven’t they reported on the racism/anti semitism that’s a daily thing at barstool before this?”
