Shooter Black Ice rumbled its way into the two-hour premiere of BattleBots Season 2, which airs June 23 on ABC. Featured with 12 other robots vying for the four remaining spots in the field of 48, Black Ice iced Bad Kitty and Skorpios. Four 3-minute “rumbles” were held to determine which four bots moved on. Here’s the lineup (winners in bold):
- Son of Whyachi (S.O.W) vs. Creepy Crawlies vs. Ultraviolent
- Basilisk vs. Blacksmith vs. Gemini
- Invader vs. Mohawk vs. Lycan
- Bad Kitty vs. Skorpios vs. Black Ice
Shooter Black Ice is manned by BattleBots rookies Dan Barry and Dan Parrish. The Dans stand out in the crowd because they’re more senior than the rest and they dress like astronauts (see photo above). Most other teams tend to dress in t-shirts, shorts and jeans. Dan Barry is a robotics engineer and Dan Parrish is a pediatrician in South Hadley, Massachusetts. When not working on Black Ice, Barry says “I like flying upside down” and Parrish is either building or racing one of his skateboards.
