In the Mom episode “Pure Evil and a Free Piece of Cheesecake,” when Christy (Anna Faris) makes the Dean’s List at school she expects her mother Bonnie (Allison Janney) to be excited. But she’s not. Disappointed, Christy tries to talk to Bonnie about her apathetic response, even when shopping for Violet’s wedding dress. Turns out, Bonnie had dreams of a higher education too. In a dream sequence, Bonnie envisions herself working at the White House, walking the hallways with co-worker Robert.
Robert is portrayed by Janney’s former The West Wing co-star Richard Schiff (who memorably played WH Communications Director Toby Ziegler). Schiff is also known for his roles on House of Lies (Harrison “Skip” Galweather), The Grinder (Gordon Stutz), Rogue (Marty Stein), The Affair (Jon Gottlief), Manhattan (Occam), Ballers (Mr. Anderson), and Murder in the First (David Hertzberg), and that’s just in the past two years. Mom airs Thursdays at 9pm on CBS.
