Detroit Pistons basketball guru, president, and head coach Stan Van Gundy would rather be playing another team in the playoffs. Van Gundy’s too smart to think otherwise. Sure the Pistons have taken 3 out of 4 from the Cavs this season. But Van Gundy knows if you’re in the Eastern Conference the last team you want to face in the playoffs is LeBron James’ Cleveland Cavaliers on a mission to avenge their injury-stricken Finals defeat last year at the hands of Steph & Co.
The Pistons haven’t been to the postseason since 2009. They’re playing with momentum and confidence — and the rumpled mastermind in the coach’s chair will win them every advantage on the x’s and o’s side of the competition. But physically it’ll be a hard matchup for Detroit, with the Cavaliers at near full strength. This won’t be the same Cavaliers team that lost three times to the Pistons this season. It’s a much healthier and hungrier team.
