The Voice may have unleashed a friendly monster by allowing retweets to count as votes for an Instant Save. That five minute Instant Save voting period to rescue one of the bottom two artists near the end of the show? Think of how a giant celeb could completely deliver victory to either performer with just a shout-out to the faithful. Based on the iTunes rankings after the April 18 show, Mary Sarah of Team Blake enters the April 19 Voice broadcast ranked 11th of out the 12 remaining artists. The bottom two artists will perform one last time near the end of the show to try to convince America they deserve another chance.
The friendly monster is this: if the rankings stay the same and Mary Sarah is one of the two artists who needs saving when the time comes, a celeb Twitter tickle could tip the scales. What if, say, reality singing show-winning country megastar Carrie Underwood was feeling generous and simply tweeted #VoiceSaveMarySarah to her 5.1 million followers? Enough easy retweets would no doubt follow that Mary Sarah would live to sing another day. Unless of course Lady Gaga or Justin Bieber tweets a vote for the other artist. The Voice airs Mondays and Tuesdays at 8pm on NBC.
