49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick was reportedly headed to the Super Bowl Champion Denver Broncos by now. But the contract talks between Broncos head guy John Elway and Kaepernick have apparently included more dancing than even Super Bowl 50 MVP Von Miller is doing these days.
Kaepernick, who under his current deal includes a base salary of $11.9 million this season, would need to agree to a pay cut — a restructuring anyway — in order to join the Broncos. And the Broncos need to free up lots of cap space to meet even a reduced salary figure that Kaepernick might agree to. In the meantime, Kaepernick is reportedly heading back to the Bay Area to start workouts with the 49ers. He’s just eager to get back to work, of course, and there’s also the little matter of the $400,000 he’ll be paid under his contract if he participates in 90% of the Niners workouts. That cash might make it easier to hear Elway out.
A fan snapped a happy Kaerpernick on a plane to the coast:
