Ransom Riggs is probably enjoying his last few minutes of not being a household name. At least we hope so, because it won’t last long. The marvelously inventive author of the Miss Peregrine’s Peculiar Children series of books, Riggs’ creation is getting the Tim Burton treatment as Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children hits theaters in September. The trailer struck this week — see below — and already Riggs must have the brighter lights in his eyes.
It’s not as if Riggs is unknown — the books are #1 bestsellers. Riggs — one of the best-named authors around — has had a rich and successful career. But with the fantastic film imminent, Riggs and his 50K Twitter followers are hearing it from the likes of his old friend author John Green with his 5 million followers. Green is letting everyone know that Riggs has “inspired and thrilled” him for two decades now. And just look what Riggs has done to Tim Burton! Below the trailer you’ll find Green’s litany of praise for his friend Riggs.
Almost 20 years ago, I first met the eccentric and charismatic @ransomriggs when he was a freshman at Kenyon College.

Ransom and I read Ulysses together, wrote sketches together for a comedy group, and roadtripped with our friend Kathy to the Grand Canyon.

I was delighted to read Ransom’s first novel, Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children, and find it as strange and wondrous as he is.

Cheers to my old friend. May the movie introduce many to Ransom’s brilliant imagination, which has inspired and thrilled me for 19 years.
