Three-time NASCAR Spring Cup Series champion Tony Stewart was in a sand dune car crash in a desert outside of San Diego. Fox Sports reports that Stewart flipped a sand buggy and was airlifted to a hospital. The 44-year-old continues to recover from a back injury brought on by the non-racing accident in the undisclosed hospital.
Stewart recently announced that he will compete in his last Spring Cup series in 2016. First practice at Daytona International Speedway is February 12, 2016. Sand Dune driving is popular off-road sport that attracts those with a need for speed and daring. Not surprisingly, it’s popular on the NASCAR circuit.
