Anthony Ortiz is the entrepreneur from Philadelphia behind SmartPlate, a 10-inch plate that helps people, especially those dieting, to eat better. As 2paragraphs reported in May 2015, SmartPlate “can weigh your food, count the calories and then send that data to your tracker.” It tracks and analyzes everything you eat (on the plate) with an app. Ortiz launched a Kickstarter campaign and raised more than $110,000 but now he needs a strategic partner to help him sell the WiFi plates. That’s why he’s pitching SmartPlate on Shark Tank.

As of right now, there’s only one place to preorder a SmartPlate (with lid) for $119, and it’s here. Note: The more you buy the cheaper it gets (2 go for $225; 4 go for $425). They will be delivered in Fall 2016. Shark Tank airs Fridays at 9pm on ABC.
