Sarasota firefighter Sam Dreher and Danielle Dreher were going through a nasty divorce. The divorce proceedings came to brutal end in 2012. Danielle Dreher and her boyfriend, Michael Minor, decided to spy on Sam Dreher and his girlfriend Dianne McKnight. They put GPS trackers on their cars and plotted to break into McKnight’s apartment in order to steal $2000 worth of jewelry Danielle believed was hers. Soon after the burglary, Minor shot and killed Sam Dreher. Minor agreed to testify against Danielle and got 30 years in prison (15 for the burglary and theft).
Danielle Dreher was never charged in connection with her husband Sam Dreher’s death. However, in August 2015, she was sentenced to three years in prison for her ties to the burglary and theft at McKnight’s apartment. The judge called the facts of the case “particularly troubling” especially the text messages that revealed Dreher’s “glee” as she and Minor spied on McKnight. Dateline NBC will feature the case in its program, “Tangled Web.” Dateline airs Fridays at 10pm on NBC.
