Alan Kaufman of Boston, Massachusetts, designed a hands-free umbrella, the Nubrella. It’s worn like a backpack and secured with a belt around the waist. When the canopy is not in use, it folds down your back just like a hood. It not only keeps a user dry but can also block a 40-mph wind. Kaufman pitched the Nubrella on Shark Tank in 2010. Since then, he has redesigned the the Nubrella for better visibility and comfort. It weighs just 3 pounds.
The Nubrella is currently available only on the company website ($80), where you can also buy the custom backpack version ($110). The backpack is a normal backpack that can be detached and used separately.
